Private 6621 abt. 1881 23 January 1917 36 15th Bn. Australian Infantry, A. I. F. Son of John and Isabella McGregor. Born at Bega, New South Wales, Australia. |
The Southern Star reports on 31 January 1917 the death of David Edward McGregor: THE DEATH OF DAVE MCGREGOR Mrs John McGregor, of Bega, received the sad news from the Defence Department on Monday evening that her son David had died of pneumonia in hospital in England. Deceased, who was well known as a cheesemaker in the Tilba district, went to Queensland some years back, and enlisted there last year. He went direct lo England from Australia and had not been long there. He had, therefore no opportunity of striking a blow for his country, but he died in its service just the same, and his name must be added to the roll of the honored dead. He was a brother of Loch McGregor, who fought at Gallipoli and is still fighting in the Egyptian desert, and of Wallace McGregor, who is at the front in France. Another brother, Ken, enlisted, but was rejeclted, so it will be seen that poor Dave belonged to a fighting family, and would no doubt have made a name for himself had he lived to go to the front. The sad news of his death caused sincere regret in Bega, where his mother and youngest sister (Miss Ada McGregor) reside, and the sympathy, of the community will be extended to them in their sorrow. Mrs T. C. White (Bodalla), and Mrs P. W. Tarlinton (Tweed River) are also sisters of deceased, and Messrs John and James McGregor, of Brogo, brothers. |
