James Blindell was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England in 1883. His parents were Richard James Blindell (1855-1940) and Elizabeth Hawkins (1852-1928). He married Eliza Good (1882-1971) in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England in July 1904 and died in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England on 10 May 1937. He was father of Ronald James R. Blindell (1905-1969).

Obituary of the WeekSir James Blindell, M. P., Junior Lord of the Treasurey, following a car crash at Stickford, near Boston, Lincs, aged 52. He rose from an errand boy to be managing director of a chain of shoe shops bearing his name.
He became M. P. for Holland-with-Boston in 1929, the first Liberal since war days, and since 1932 had been Chief Whip to the Liberal National Party. He was knighted last year.
