Samuel Nathan Walter
My cousin thinks he was Samuel Neville Walter (1820 to abt. 1889) I think the middle name was Nathan. He was born around 1820 somewhere in Middlesex. He married Eliza Parsons from Shepton Mallet in Somerset.
In April 1857, he and his wife were in the Dutch East Indies where he is a Merchant and their daughter Sophia Rachel was born. By late 1858 the family had moved to Singapore where his boys were born, Charles Hamford in December 1858, Frederic William in March 1860, John Samuel in July 1861 and George Alfred in 1863 or 1864.
According to the 1871 Census, the family were back in England living at 59 Knowle Road, Brixton. A middle class neighbourhood where their immediate neighbours included solicitors, commercial agents, clerks, and a dentist. Samuel declared that he was a man of independent means. This census also shows his name as Samual H Walter.
They were still living here when Sophia was married in 1877. At some time over the next four years Samuel died. His wife Eliza can be found in later Census returns living on Independent means. However, there is no record of his death in England, his loss at sea or his death listed by any British consulates overseas, so when and where he died is not known as yet. Submitter: chipaway
