DRIVER BLAMELESS
HUSBAND AND WIFE KILLED AFTER
FESTIVITIES
Coronation festivities were connected with a tragedy at Coalville, Leicestershire, that involved the deaths of a husband and wife, George Harry Upton, 65, and Harriet Upton, 61.
They were killed by being run over by a motor-car 100 yards from their home in Talbot-street, Whitwick, when returning from celebrations in the adjoining village of Thringstone.
At the inquest evidence was given that the driver of the car, Ellis Seaton, of Hugglescote, dipped his lights to pass a girl cyclist, and did not see the couple lying on the road.
Mrs. Wright, a daughter, stated her parents had been to a public house in Thringstone, but were quite sober when they left.
A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned, and it was added that no blame whatever attached to the car driver.
