Thomas Towan was born in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 22 May 1774. His parents were Thomas and Grace Towan, nee Nicholls. He was married to Martha Brown in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 15 June 1797. The couple had following children: Martha (1797-1881), Grace (1801-1864), Thomas (1806-1883), Lucy (1810-1858), and Elizabeth (1814-1815).

of the Personal estate and effects of Thomas Towan, late of the Parish of Calstock in the County of Cornwall, Miner, a Bachelor, deceased, who died 16 January 1858 at Calstock aforesaid were granted at Bodmin to Ann Chesterfield (Wife of John Chesterfield of Penryn in the County of Cornwall, Labourer), the Sister and one of the Next of Kin of the said Deceased she having been first sworn.

Grace Towan was born in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 21 December 1800. Her parents were Thomas and Martha Towan, nee Brown. She was married to Matthew Harris in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 17 September 1820. The couple had following children: John (1824-1888), Mary (1829-1887), James (1830-1875), and William (1837-1902). She died in 1864 and was burried in Perranzabuloe, Cornwall, England on 04 December 1864

Elizabeth Brown Towan was baptised in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 17 July 1814 and died in Redruth, Cornwall, England on 05 February 1815. Her parents were Thomas and Martha Towan, nee Brown.
