Ernest Sherwood was born in King's Norton, Worcestershire, England on 04 October 1864 and was baptised in the Church of St. Martin in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England on 03 January 1865. His parents were William and Christine Sherwood, nee Griffiths. He emigrated to the United States and arrived New York on 22 December 1888. He was married to Emma Herdman in Rhode Island, USA on 11 March 1889. He applied for citizenship in Providence, Rhode Island, USA on 02 April 1894. Two daughters of the couple are known: Lilian C. (b. 1894) and Frances A. (1903-1974). He died in Plainville, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA on 14 February 1940.
