Lieutenant, 7th Bn. of King's Own Scottish Borderers
only son of Sir Stephen and Lady Penfold, of 70, Cheriton Rd., Folkestone
died of wounds in France on 28 January 1916.
He's buried in the Communal Cemetery of Noeux-les-Mines, Pas de Calais, France.

Penfold, Jeffrey Bradley (Jerry), Lieutenant, 7th (Service) Battn. The King's Own Scottish Borderers, only son of Sir Stephen Penfold, of 70, Cheriton Road, Folkestone, Mayor of Folkestone, by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Acton Hall, of East Hanney, co. Berkshire; born Folkestone, oo. Kent, 9 May, 1887; educated Uppingham School, and intended entering the Army, but failed to pass the medical examination owing to defective eyesight and delicacy; enlisted in the Public School and University Corps as a Private in September 1914, after the outbreak of war; was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant King's Own Scottish Borderers 26 December 1914, and promoted Lieutenant September 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from September 1915; took part in the Battle of Loos, god died at No. 37 Casualty Clearing Station, Noeux-les-Mines 28 January 1916, from wounds received in action at the Hohenzollern Redoubt the previous day, while bandaging one of his men who had been wounded. Buried at Noeux-les-Mines.
His Commanding Offioer wrote : "He was universally beloved, both officers and men loved him, and he had made his mark on the battalion, and indeed outside, and his loss will be irreparable $0 me," and a brother officer: "Dear old Jerry, we all loved him so much, with his quaint mannerisms which were part of his loving self; he was, above all, a very fine officer when on duty in the trenches; never a minute late when his turn came for duty, often taking other people's watches." Unm.
