Manfred Nikolaus Ferdinand Nelson was born in Sölvesborgs landsförsamling, Blekinge, Sverige (Sweden) on 04 February 1862. His parents were Nils Nilsson and Johanna Lindholm. His marriage (01 July 1890) to Margaret Elizabeth Barnett was registered in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales during the third quarter of 1890. Two children are known: Bert Ferdinand Nelson (1891-1968) and Ernest Augustus Nelson (1893-1939). Ferdinand and his wife resided with R. Barnett, aged 73 years, and Thomas E. Barnett, aged 2 years, at 24, Iron Street, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales in 1939. He died in Roath, Cardiff, Wales on 20 January 1946 and was interred in Cathays Cemetery.

Margaret Elizabeth Barnett was born in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales on 02 February 1872 and was baptised in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Bute Street in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales on 20 March 1874. Her parents were Charles Henry and Louisa Barnett, nee Croker. She died in Cardiff, Wales in July 1955 and was interred in Cathays Cemetery.
