WOUNDED IN WORKS MARRIED MAN REMANDED ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE
(From our own correspondent) Birmingham, Saturday. - Arrested yesterday, 20 minutes after he is alleged to have attacked a girl in the works of Golf Ball Developments, Ltd., Washwood Heath, with a knife, Sidney Alexander Lilley, 39, was in court here to-day for only a few minutes. Lilley, a married motor-driver, living at Tufton-grove, Pype Hayes, Birmingham, is accused of having attempted to murder Miss Olive Yorworth, 20, of Duddeston Mill-road, Birmingham. Det.-insp. Wood stated that the girl was in hospital suffering from a wound extending through the throat. Another wound ran from the lower jaw through the mouth. There were several other wounds, and the girl was not out of danger. The doctor thought it would be advisable if Lilley were kept near the hospital in case the police wished to take her depositions. When Lilley was arrested, according to the officer, he stated; "Yes, I have done it," and told him where to find the knife. Lilley was remanded in custody until Monday.
