Catherine Humble and Sarah Walker

Goal for Woman Thief
Catherine Humble, aged 43, was at Sunderland, yesterday, sent to goal for a month, for having stolen clothing worth 6s. The case against Sarah Walker, who was charged with her, was dismissed. The evidence was that prisoners had gone to the house of a Mrs. Usher in a half-drunken condition, and commenced to sing. Mrs. Usher had to go for a policeman, and while she was away the prisoners took out clothing from a drawer. When the constable arrived, Humble threw a portion of the clothing away. At the police station the remainder of the stolen things dropped from under her apron. (Published in the "Northern Echo" on December 7, 1921) |
