Wear Captain Former Shipmates among Mourners
Many mourners, including former shipmates, and representatives of shipping interests and Freemasonry lodges attended the funeral of Captain Thomas Percival Denton, of Ormonde Street, Sunderland, at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery, yesterday. Captain Denton died on board his ship, the Quickstep, at Danzig (Remark: Gdansk) on May 1.
Family mourners were: Messrs. T. P. Denton (son), Clive Denton (brother), Ernest Veitch, George Smith (brothers-in-law), Captain Nesbitt and Mr. H. Walker (cousins), Messr. Albert Veitch (uncle), George V. Smith (nephew), Douglas Nesbitt, W. Gray and Dr. W. Hunter.
Other mourners included Messrs. T. Gee and G. E. Pearson (Palatine Lodge), Captain Peterkin (St. John's), Captain Carruthers, R. Errington (Phoenix), Messrs. T. A. Brown (Croft Lodge, Blyth), Amos Tate (Wearmouth Lodge and St. Gabriel's Church), T. K. Wilton, junior, G. Pratt, R. Pearse, and Captains Smith, Anderson, F. Steeley, Messrs. R. Weatherby and J. Wishart (representing Witherington and Everett, Newcastle), F. Stoddart and W. Burletson (representing Wilson and Burletson, Newcastle), R. Drape (representing C. J. Welsh and Co., Sunderland) and Mr. R. Beattie (representing Armstrong, Edison and Co., Sunderland). |
Thomas Percival Denton was born in Sunderland, Durham on 22 November 1877. His parents were George and Sarah J. Denton, nee Nesbitt. He was married to Ethel Metcalfe Veitch in Sunderland, Durham during the third quarter of 1907.
