Mathilda Carr
My great great grandmother Matilda (known in the family as Tilly Carr)
was born in 1836 in Surrey. Her husband James Benjamin Carr
(born 1827 in Hertford) was a Horsehair Manufacturer. Tilly used to work
in the business, in Essex, 'pulling' horse hair. Constant contact on her bare
hands from the horse hair over the years caused her to contract skin cancer,
from which she died. Mind you, she died in 1922 aged 86 and had she not died
from the cancer, she would soon after have died from old age!
