Romance of Bowling Bridegroom of 83 meets bride of 73 on the green
A chance meeting on the Bole Hill bowling green, Sheffield, and a five years' courtship culminated in the marriage yesterday of two of the oldest residents in the Walkley and Crookes district. The bridegroom, the oldest man to be married at the Ecclesall Register Office, was Mr. John Austin (83), Moorsyde-avenue. His bride was Mrs. Eliza Jowett (73), who lived in the same district. Mr. Austin for 30 years was secretary of the United Society of Spring Fitters and Vicemen. |
