Fred Melvin Atkins was born in Sunderland, Durham, England on 29 August 1893. His parents were Andrew and Annie J. Atkins. He was married to Phyllis Ellen Houghton in St. Peter and St. Paul, Teddington, Richmond upon Thames, England. He died in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, England on 13 December 1964.

1918 - 22: Marine Engineer, 4th Engr., S. S. "Westgarth";
i/c Main Engines and Boilers; 2nd Cl. Marine Engine Cert.;
4th Engr., S. S. "Kent" (Geared Turbine); i/c Watch of Main Engines
and Boilers, 2nd Engrs. per Watch;
3rd Engr. S. S. "Turret Crown".
1922 - 23: Engineer, i/c Boilers, Steam Engines, Motors, Refrig. Plant,
Nalder and Collyers Brewery Co., Ltd., Croydon.

Present Employment:
1923 - : Engineer-in-Charge, The Bristol United Breweries, Lewins
Mead, Bristol; full charge and resp. for efficiency and maintenance
of Brewery Machy. with output of 2,000 barrels and 5,000 doz.
bottles beer per week.
