Flight Officer Chorzelski lost his life in the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave". One of the most daring raids of WW II. He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross" for his valor. Flown by Capt R. M. Gentry and crew of the 44th Bomber Group, briefed to fly as lead of the last element attacking WHITE II at Ploesti. Attacked by fighters after reaching the target 2 engines set on fire and two crew killed by fighters. Crashed in a maze field at Berceni ending with nose in the ground. S/Sgt Bridges an ex RCAF from Augusta, Georgia is the only man to escape prior to the explosion. Crew was buried at Ploesti and re-interred to US cemeteries after WWII. |

Son of Oscar and Nida Simonson, brother of Philip, Kenneth, Lyle, Georgia and Norval Simonson.
Mission 42-6230 "Limber Dugan" to Yawata reported as missed in action. The B-29 crashed in Takasu, Wakamatsu City, Fukuoka Prefecture and was the first B-29 shot down over Japan. The crew remains of 42-6230 were found in late 1948. In 1949 the crew was returned to the US and placed in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in a mass grave because individual id could not be determined. |

Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri
On August 15, 1943 took off a C-47-DL Dakota from Port Moresby fully loaded with supplies and personnel of the 35th Fighter Command Squadron and 39th Fighter Squadron. While in the traffic pattern for Tsili Tsili Airfield, its second flight was intercepted by Ki-43 Oscars led by Shigeo Nango of the 59th Sentai. This C-47 was shot down south-west of Tsili Tsili with the loss of all aboard. It was never found in searches following its disappearance. |

Lieutenant Hoke was the pilot of a F-51D Mustang night fighter with the 39th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Group. On August 31, 1951, he was strafing the entrenched enemy forces on a mountain ridge two miles west of Chong-jae, North Korea when his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire, crashed and exploded. Awards: First Lieutenant Hoke was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. |

On August 14, 1951, while on a combat mission, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the Taedong-ni River. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. On December 13, 1951, while on a close support mission, his aircraft dove into the ground and exploded 35 miles northwest of Seoul (North of Samdung, South Korea). His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 16, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. As his aircraft attacked the target it was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on October 5, 2001 and identified on January 30, 2002. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
