Son of William and Isabella Johnstone,
of 3, Low Street, New Pitsligo.

The "Aberdeen Weekly Journal" reported the death of William T. Johnstone on 31 May 1918:
Private Wm T. Johnstone, Gordons, eldest son of Pioneer William Johnstone, R. E., died on 19th May in a hospital in Manchester from wounds received in action in July, 1917. Previous to enlistment, he was a farm servant at Overbrae, Fisherie.
The body of Private Johnstone was sent home, and he was accorded a military funeral which took place to Turlundie Churchyard on Friday. The local contingent of Volunteers turned out in full force, headed by Piper Wm Sherran. The coffin was covered with a Union Jack. The firing party was in command of Quartermaster Sergeant George Duncan. The courtege attracted a deal of attention. The service was conducted at the grave by the Rev. W. Murray Meston and the Rev D. H. Forson.
