The bomber took off at 21.44 hrs from RAF East Kirby, Lincolnshire to attack Stuttgart. A total of 494 Lancasters and 2 Mosquitoes took part but the German nightfighters intercepted them on the outbound fight. The result was that 40 aircrafts were lost aided by a bright moon and also this was the third consecutive night raid on the already destroyed city.
