Weston-super-Mare, by his wife, Gertrude Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. Francis Burford Leonard, late Rector of Llandivand, co. Monmonthshire; born Flushing, near Falmouth, co.Cornwall, 21 September 1896; educated St. Peter's School, Weston-super-Mare, and Radley College; gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 3rd Battn. The Somerset Light Infantry 08 January 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 12 May following, attached to the
2nd Bnttn. The Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regt.; was invalided home in August 1915; rejoined the Somerset Light Infantry in March, 1916, transferring to the Royal Flying Corps from home service in August of the same year; obtained his Wings and his Pilot's Certificate in March, 1917; returned to France on the 12th of that month, and was killed in action near Arras 21 April following. Buried in Varenne Military Cemetery. His Commanding Officer wrote: "He was a very gallant fellow and a very fine pilot." Unm. |
