Buried in Contay British Cemetery, near Albert. PTE.(?) GEO. PHILIP, GORDONS. Private(?) GEORGE PHILIP, 1st Gordon Highlanders, who was twent-six years of age, was the son of Mrs. Soutar, 143 Panmure Terrace, Carnnustie. He was employed at Arbroath railway station as a porter. He enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders in 1908, and went out to Egypt in a draft for the 2nd Gordon Highlanders. He went to France in 1914, and was seriously wounded in the first battle of Ypres. After nearly a year's leave he returned to France, and was transferred to the
lst Gordon Highlanders. Private(?) Philip was killed in action in Delville Wood on the 18th of July 1916. He was at first reported missing, but his body was afterwards found(?) by a machine gun party when they were clearing a position for their guns. |

Aberdeen Journal, in November 1916: PTE. DURWARD, DURRIS Mr. and Mrs. Durward, Bogenraith, Durris, have received news that their second son, Pte. Robert Durward, Gordons, was killed on 8th November by a fragment of shrapnel which struck him on the head. Pte. Durward, who was 22 years of age, was previously employed as foreman on the farm of Bogenraith, his father being manager there.

Durward, aged 22 years, dearly beloved son of William and Ann Durward, Bogenreith, Durrie - deeply mourned Oh, for the touch of a vanished hand, And the sound of a voice that is still.

SGT. A. MARSHALL, M. M., S. R. Serjeant Alexander Marshall, M. M., 9th Scottish Rifles, Twenty-three years of age, was the stepson of William Rae, West Mains of Auchmithie, near Arbroath. He was a valet to Sir Wm. Dunn, in London, when he joined the 1st Scottish Rifles. He went to France in December 1914, distinguished himself by his fine solderly qualities, and was rapidly promoted serjeant. He was wounded in September 1916, and later was transferred to the 9th Battalion. Serjeant Marshall was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. He was reported missing on the 3rd of May 1917, and was presumed killed on that date. |

Erected by Andrew Davidson and family. In loving memory of his sons Pte. John Davidson Royal Highlanders died at General School Hospital, Aberdeen, 27th November 1918, aged 33 years. Pte. George Davidson 3rd Canadians who was killed at Vimy Rich 3rd April 1917, aged 25½ years. The above Andrew Davidson died at Wheywell, Durris 20th Feb. 1937 aged 85 years. |

A George Reid, immigrant, aged 23 years, was passenger of the "Mongolian" and reached Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in March 1907.
George Alexander Reid was married to Margaret Jane Bissett in Petrolia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada on 13 December 1911.
Pte. G. H. REID KILLED BY TRAIN NEAR LONDON (Special Dispatch to The Globe) London, Ont., October 5 - Private George H. Reid, a Petrolia man with the 34th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force, in training here, was killed by a Grand Trunk train near Wyton, four miles east of here, some time last night, the discovery being made late this afternoon. Reid, who was thirty-one years of age, and a native of Scotland, had become delirious as a result of being inoculated for typhoid fever earlier in the day, and in a demented condition had wandered away from the camp and out of the city. He was employed as a bartender at Petrolia, and had enlisted but a few days ago. |
