20 December 1861, Budleigh Salterton, Devonshire

Royal Army Medical Corps
Hogsthorpe (St. Mary) Churchyard and extension, Lincolnshire, UK
Son of Maj. Gen. Edgar John and Julia Matilda Spilsbury, nee Fuller,
husband of Clara Louisa Spilsbury, nee Bencraft,
of Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire.

A newspaper reported following:
Hogsthorpe. - ACTION BETWEEN SURDEONS
At Spilsby County Court on Friday, before His Honour Judge Shortt, Francis James Spilsbury, surgeon, Hogsthorpe, sued Lewis W, Pockett, surgeon, 259, Hainton-street, Grimsby, for £9 5s., for breach of contract on the sale of a tribus. - Mr. H. K. Bloomer (Messrs. Reed and Bloomer, Grimsby) defended, and Mr. Hatt was for the plaintiff. - The case for the plaintiff was that in October, 1893, he took over the defendant's practice at Hogsthorpe. Defendant offered him the tribus for sale, telling him it was of London build. About the end of October plaintiff decided to purchase the vehicle for £25, but in the following year, when speaking about it to a friend, he found it was of Louth make, and not London. He wrote to the defendant about it, and the latter acknowledged the fact. He also had an interview with the defendant on the matter. In September, 1894, plaintiff put the tribus in a local carriage sale, but only £9 was bid for it. - After hearing the plaintiff, Mrs. Spilsbury, and a witness named Kime, a Louth carriage trimmer, the case was settled on the suggestion of his Honour, the terms not being made public.

The marriage of Francis James Spilsbury and Clara Louisa Bencraft was registered in Bideford, Devonshire during the second quarter of 1892. Following children are known: Francis (1893-1969, Lt.-Col.), John (1895-1981), Anne (1897-1965) and Freda (1902-1918).

Wills and Administrations, 1920
Spilsbury, Francis James, of Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire, died 11 October 1919 at Headington, Oxfordshire.
Probate London 02 March to Clara Louisa Spilsbury, widow.
Effects £391 18s. 11d.
