Lt.-Colonel Edward Bourryau Luard, D. S. O.
The King's (Shropshire Light Infantry),
who died on Ester Monday April 24, 1916 of wounds received on
the night of Good Friday when the 1st Bn. K. S. L. I. (under his command)
re-took the trenches on the Ypres Langemarck Road and was
laid to rest in the cemetery N. Poperinghe.

Adjutant of the 4th Bn. K. S. L. I. at Hereford 1902 - 1905.
Married in the Ladye Chapel of this cathedral in 1905 to Louise, daughter
of the Revd. Sidney Lidderdale Smith, Canon residentiary of Hereford.

Aucto splendore resurgo.

Given in loving remembrance by his wife.

Henry C. Carden To the memory of
Major Henry C. Carden, D. S. O.
Devon Regiment
Killed in action in France at the Battle of Loos
25th September 1915. Born 30th January 1855.
Son of Sir John C. Carden, Bart.
of Templemore, Ireland.
A gallant soldier and a true friend.

Wilfrid Townshend Carless
Major 1st Herefordshire Regt.
1897 - 1915.

Born at Hereford 26th August 1875.
Educated at the Cathedral School.
Freeman of this city.
Registrar of the county court.
Deputy city & county coroner.

He sailed with the British Mediterranean
Expeditionary Force to the Dardanelles
on 16th July 1915, landed at Sulvy Bay at
dawn on August 9th. He was last seen
on the evening of August 12th while
in command of the Battalion and
has been "missing" since that date.

"Splendid you passed the Great Surrender made,
Into the light that nevermore shall fade;
All you had hoped for, all you had, you gave
To save mankind-yourself you scorned to save."

This tablet is placed here by his wife and children
in proud and loving remembrance, October 1919.

H. Waite Brooke In loving memory of
Corpl. H. Waite Brooke,
26th R. Fusiliers.
Only son of Mr. H. Brooke
of this cathedral choir.,
and Mrs. Brooke.
Killed in action
at Moen, Belgium,
21st Oct. 1918,
aged 19 years.
