A newspaper reported his death: Lance Corporal Hughes Lance Corporal Edward Hughes is officially reported to have been killed in action on August 22. His wife, Mrs. Jessie Hughes, 206 Hoon Avenue, received a letter from him written on the 19th of August, and he had not been in any fighting then. He enlisted with the 75th Battalion a year ago in July but, when the unit was broken up, he went to the front as a La. Corp. Hughes, sniper. La. Corp. Hughes was born at Llangollen in North Wales, 30 years. |
