Thomas Christopher Bradberry, M. A., Curate of Hayton and Talkin, by his wife, Edith Alice (Garth Foot, Castle Carrock, How Mill, Carlisle), daughter of the late George Sedgwick; born Longton, co. Stafford, 25 June, 1893; educated Grosvenor College, Carlisle, and Brompton Secondary School; joined the Sportsman's Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers 15 January I915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flandsws from November 1915, and was killed in action at Beaumont Hamel 13 November 1916. His Captain wrote: "He died bravely fighting for King, Home and Country."   Unm.

Dargue, Edwin, Corporal, No. 201955, 2/4th (Territorial) Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, only son of William Shepherd Dargue, of Castle Carrock, Cumberland, Farmer, by his wife, Mary, daughter of Thomas Mason, of Croglin; born Castle Carrock, 16 March 1894; educated Castle Carrock and Cumwhitton Council Schools; was subsequently employed as a Male Attendant at Whittingham County Asylum, near Preston; enlisted in November 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 07 February 1917, and died at No. 4 Casualty Clearing Station 29 October following, from wounds received in action at Passchendaele on the 26th. Buried in Dozinghem British Cemetery, near Poperinghe.
Lieutenant Robert H. Jelf wrote: "Although he had only recently transferred to this company, I had found him to be one of my best and most reliable section commanders, and he is a very great loss both to my platoon and the company. He did magnificently when the real test came. 'Over the top', and was shot in the stomache by a sniper when trying to bring back a message from a forward position which the company captured."   Unm.
