Toronto Telegram in August 1917

The "Toronto Telegram" reported in August 1917 following:
FATHER LOST AT SEA
Thos. Chamberlain, formerly of Woodbine Ave., Has Two Sons in C. E. F.
That her father, Seaman Thomas Chamberlain, had lost his life at sea was the word received by Mrs. J. Grath, 211 Booth avenue, in a letter from her mother in England. He was killed or drowned with all of his crew, when a steamer carrying munitions to France was mined or torpedoed in the Channel in May last. Just two weeks before another ship he was on was torpedoed, but the crew saved. He had been in the Royal navy for 18 years and came to Canada ten years ago, and had lived at 79 Woodbine avenue. On the outbreak of war the family returned to England with the five younger children. Mr. Chamberlain was 59 years of age.
Two sons, Thomas "Jack" Chamberlain and Arnold Chamberlain, enlisted in Toronto battalions and are overseas. Fred Chamberlain is farming at Stouffville and two other sisters are Mrs. Lord and Mrs. Wilson, Toronto.
