SAD NEWS for Broadstairs wife.
Pte. Charles W. Pantony, of the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regt., who was reported missing after the attack at Loos on Sept. 25th, 1915, has now been officially reported killed on that date.
Although close upon fourteen months after he had failed to answer roll call on that memorable day, his wife, who resides at 2, Wrothom-avenue, Broadstairs, had not given up hope of her husband being still alive.
Pte. Pantony volunteered for the colours in September, 1914, and proceeded to the Western Front with his battalion in March of the same year. He was doing duty for a considerable tim e as a sniper. Previous to enlisting, the gallant soldier was employed by Mr. J. T. May, of Broadstairs, as a painter, and had a wide circle of friends, among whom he was much respected.

Peyton, Montagu Frank, 2nd Lieutenant, 16th (Service) Battn. The Northumberland Fusiliers, younger son of Captain Frank Peyton, of East Horndon, Broadstairs, Royal Navy, by his wife, Janet Wynyard, daughter of the late J. E. Barker, K. C.; born Plymouth, 02 March 1898; educated Oakfield Preparatory School, Rugby; Lancing College, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst; was gazettet 2nd Lieutenant The Northumberland Fusiliers 26 October 1916; trained at East Boldon; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 16 December following, and was killed in action at Nieuport 11 July, 1917. Buried in Nieuport Military Cemetery. His Commanding Officer wrote: "I can't tell you how sorry I am; he was one of my very best officers," and a brother officer: "Your son was in my company, and was, I think, my most trusted officer; he was always so keen, and took such a great interest in his work, and could always be relied upon to perform any work given to him. He was greatly liked by the men of his platoon and company, and was one of the most popular officers in this battalion, and in the line had proved himself a very gallant officer . . . " Another officer also wrote: "I took the company into action on the night of the 10th, during which time one of my officers were killed and the other gassed; your son was the only other left with me to 'carry on'. He did wonderful work in helping to reorganize. We were together on the morning of the 11th, just after he had regained the second line. He went to reconnoitre the second line, and had not been gone many minutes before I received a message saying he was hit . . . He was a tremendous loss to us all, and to me a loss I shall always regret," and his servant: "He was a real gentleman and a very keen soldier. He died a hero's death . . . A fine officer it would be hard to find."   Unm.

This page is dedicated to the 10 million victims of World War I and 60 million victims of World War II.
We should always remember the immense grief and loss each war brought to the world.
