Probably: "James" Patrick Lewen Sharp, D. F. C., unfortunately met his death on the 21st March 1949, along with Henry Patterson and Robert John Freight when Handley Page Halton G-AJZZ crashed at Schleswigland.
The plane flew into high ground at night during Berlin Airlift ("Operation Planefare"). On final approach to Schleswigland Air Base, the four engine aircraft was too low and crashed few hundred yards short of runway. Three crew members were killed while the fourth occupant was injured. The aircraft was destroyed. Crew: Captain Robert John Freight, pilot - James Patrick Lewin Sharp, navigator - Henry Patterson, flight engineer.
A newspaper reported the death of John Sharp: Sharp - On March 21, 1949 at Schleswig, killed in a flying accident, John Patrick Lewen Sharp, dearly loved only surviving son of the late Dr. ?. W. Sharp, of Burnham Market, and Amy Sharp, Brancaster, Norfolk.
