Tragedy struck twice in 1918 for Arthur and Rith Widdop, nee Baines, of Morecambe.
Lance Corporal Colin Widdop, died 18 April 1918, aged 23, King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) and is remembered on the Loos Memorial in France.
Lieutenant Arthur Norman Widdop, died 30 September 1918, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) and is recorded on the Vis-en-Artois Memoril, Pas de Calais, France.

The 1911 England Census mentions a John Hartley who worked as farm labourer in the Heaming Farm of a Robinson family in Windermere, Westmorland, England. He was born at Bardsea about 1893.

In the 1901 England Census can be found a John Hartley who resided in Bardsea, Lancashire, in the household of his parents Thomas and Jane Hartley. He was born about 1893 at Lower Holker, Lancashire.
