Harry Aylward was baptised in Liss, Hampshire, England on 03 June 1900. His parents were Harry and Kate Aylward. Harry Aylward Sen. emigrated to Canada in 1907. The family followed him in 1908.

The "Toronto Telegram" reported on Edgar Caffyn Cardwell's death in December 1918:
GUNNER E. C. CARDWELL
On October 21st last, Official word was received by his parents at 120 Major street, that Gunner Edgar C. Cardwell died at sea from bronchial pneumonia on October 17th, being transferred later for burial to the Southern General Hospital at Bristol on October 18th.
Gunner Cardwell enlisted with the 2nd Tank Battalion and left Petawawa on October 3rd. "Just four weeks after we said good-bye to him, when he never looked better in his life, we got word of his death", said the father. Gunner Cardwell was just 19 years of age, a Toronto boy, attended Lansdowne Public School and the High School of Commerce on Shaw street. Prior to enlisting he was employed by the Provincial Hydro. He was a member of the Senior Boys' Bible Class of St. Stephen's Church, and was an only son.

WOUNDED FOOT AND SHOULDER
"Wounded in foot and shoulder, and admitted to the 3rd Military Hospital, Rouen, Sept. 16th", was the message received by Mr. Locke, 380 Ashdale avenue, as to Corp. R. High, 19th Battalion. High was born in St. John, N. B., 29 years ago, but lived in Toronto for some years, and was a teamster. He had been in the trenches for over a year.

PTE. E. G. LLOYD DEAD
Twice reported to have been wounded, Pte. Ellwood Gardiner Lloyd, is reported to-day to have died of wounds. The offocial notification of his death has been sent to Mrs. E. N. Lloyd, of Aurora, Ont.
Pte. Lloyd, who was a Canadian by birth, enlisted in Toronto last November with the 74th Battalion, and after training with that unit at the Exhibition Camp went overseas in March, being later transferred to another unit. He was reported wounded in the list of October 15th, and again two weeks later. He had been in the trenches since June.
